Welcome to the Institute for Women’s and Gender Studies, located at the University of Winnipeg
IWGS practices and fosters participation in collaborative feminist work, research and activism within all of our communities. We are a working partner of the Department of Women's and Gender Studies at the University of Winnipeg. We strive to develop the creative and transformative potential of the university, community and society through removing barriers to, and promoting the exchange of, knowledge between the institution and its communities.
In 2013, IWGS is focusing more directly on developing HIVE ~ Hub for InnoVative Exchange - in partnership with the Department of Women's and Gender Studies. This research partnership works to expand traditional humanities knowledge practices through the innovation of digital environments By incorporating digital advancements in collaboration, visualization, social media and dissemination, we use our research to productively explore and gauge the impact of digital media in community building. In particular, we experiment with, and innovate within, the rapidly evolving tools of social media and networking, to examine how digital media can enhance and encourage research, artistic mobilization, and public engagement.
Check our events listing often for our exciting schedule for the 2012/13 academic year. We look forward to continuing to expand the IWGS network both through engaging in more student, staff and faculty collaborations, as well as through building relationships with new community colleagues. Check out our Community Bulletin Board to see what's happening outside and around the University while you're visiting our site, and feel free to post your organization's upcoming event. And if you aren't familiar with the work we do, or who we are - come and meet us on our "About Us" pages.
