Ka Ni Kanichihk

kaniredwhiteKa Ni Kanichihk Inc. has been designing and delivering culturally relevant community-based programming and supports to at-risk and marginalized Aboriginal target populations since its inception in 2001. To date, Ka Ni Kanichihk has reached well over 18,500 people through its programs and services. At Ka Ni Kanichihk we honour the laws of our Creator and the knowledge and spirit of our ancestors. We seek their

wisdom to guide our peoples back to balance and wellness. We cherish our responsibility to the children; those who are here now and those still waiting to come, seven generations from now.  To date, these are the programs and services that we offer:

Restoring the Sacred – Youth Mentorship/Leadership Development

I.O.A.A. – Information and Office Administrative Assistant Program – a Red River College accredited program.

Circle of Courage – Youth gang prevention and intervention

Honouring Gifts - employment preparation and career exploration for young mothers

At Our Relatives Place - specialized ‘fostering’ program for families in rural Manitoba, that open their homes to sexually exploited youth.

United Against Racism (UAR) – anti racism training and education.

Aboriginal Youth Circle – The youth component of UAR

Aboriginal Women Responding to the AIDS Crisis –  to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS by empowering Aboriginal women with knowledge and support.

Iskwewak Leadership Development – develops Aboriginal women’s leadership capacity in the area of family and other forms of violence.

The Butterflies Club – an after school program for girls ages 9 – 12 to develop essential skills and self esteem..

Keeping the Fires Burning – annual event to honour Aboriginal women for contributions they have made in preserving and sharing traditional knowledge and culture.

Ka Ni Kanichihk is led by our Executive Director; Leslie Spillet and is complimented by a growing staff of knowledgeable, competent and grateful men and women.
